titleOfInvention Preparation of isobutylacetonylcarbinol and isoamylideneacetone
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the title compound, a synthetic intermediate of solvents, plasticizers, perfumes, pharmaceuticals etc., in high yield, by reacting a liquid mixture of 3-methylbutan-1-al and acetone, using Ba hydroxide or Ba oxide as a catalyst. n CONSTITUTION: A liquid mixture of 3-methylbutan-1-al and acetone is treated with Ba hydroxide and/or Ba oxide at 20W70°C under a non-oxidative gas to afford isobutylacetonylcarbinol and isoamylideneacetone. The molar ratio of 3-methylbutan-1-al to acetone should be maintained in the range of 1:3W15. The reactions except the cross aldol reaction can be inhibited. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1979,JPO&Japio
