titleOfInvention | Composite membrane for separating gas |
abstract | PURPOSE: To provide a composite membrane excellent in both separation factor and permeability coefficient, which is constituted of very thin film of poly(4-methyl pentene-1) and porous material which supports the film. n CONSTITUTION: The membrane is a composite membrane which separates a specific gas from a mixed gas, e.g., oxygen-rich air from air. A dilute soln. of polymers composed principally 4-methyl pentene-1, copolymerised with ≤40 mol %, or pref. ≤30 mol % other monomer, is applied on the surface of a solid, or dropped on the surface of a liq. to form very thin film. The thickness of the film is 1μ or under, pref. 0.5μ or under, still pref. 0.3μ or under. If necessary, two or more sheets of the film are overlapped to fomr a film 1μ or under in total thickness. The film hereby obtained is overlapped with a porous material (Japanese paper, unwoven textile etc.) pref. 1μW5 mm, still pref. 10μW1 mm in thichness to form a composite membrane. The membrane is 2.5 or higher in oxygen-separation factor, about 10 -8 W10 -9 cc.cm/cm 2 .sec.cm Hg in oxygen-permeability coefficient. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1979,JPO&Japio |
