abstract | PURPOSE: To prepare pyruvic acid, which is an important intermediate in the biometabolism, at low cost and in high yield, by the oxidative dehydrogenation of lactic acid with an O 2 -containing gas in the presence of a specific catalyst comprising Pt, etc. n CONSTITUTION: Pyruvic acid is obtained by the oxidation of lactic acid with an O 2 - containing gas in the presence of a specific catalyst. The catalyst contains not only Pt and/or Pd but also more than one element selected from Pb, Sn, Te and In or a compound thereof. The catslyst is supported on a carrier, e.g. active carbon. The supported material contains 0.5W10wt%, preferably 1W5%, of the noble metal and 0.1W20%, preferably 1W10%, of Pb, Sn etc. The amount of the catslyst used is preferably in the range of 5W100g per l l of the reaction solution. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1979,JPO&Japio |
