titleOfInvention Production of alpha-phenylethylamine
abstract PURPOSE: The catalytic reduction of acetophenone is effected, after the reaction mixture is pretreated for a prescribed time, in the presence of ammonia and a nickel catalyst from reduced nickel or nickel formate, thus producing title compound in high selectivity and yield that is used as an auxiliary agent for optical resolution. n CONSTITUTION: The catalytic reduction of acetophenone in the presence of ammonia and a nickel catalyst affords α-phenylethylamine wherein the reaction mixture containing ammonia, acetophenone is previously kept above room temperature, then hydrogen is introduced, and a nickel catalyst of reduced nickel or prepared by thermal decomposition of nickel formate is employed. The pretreatment is effected at a temperature higher than at least 20°C for a prescribed time, then the mixture is heated to the reaction temperature and hydrogen is introduced or after introduction of hydrogen, the temperature is raised. n USE: An auxiliary agent for optical resolution of carboxylic acid with optically asymmetric carbons or synthetic intermediate. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1979,JPO&Japio
