abstract PURPOSE: To obtain the title membrane with superior mechanical strength, asymmetry of membrane structure and good membrane separability by specifying the temp. and solvent removing conditions of a membrane-forming soln. of an acrylonitrile (AN) type polymer in formamide-contg. dimethylamide. n CONSTITUTION: A membrane-forming 10W35, pref. 20W30% soln. of an AN type polymer is formamide-contg. dimethylamide is held at above the gelling temp. to form a membraneous substance of a desired shape. This substance is treated to remove the solvent as follows: one side of the sol membrane is immediately contacted to an aq. soln. of below 15°C contg. below 20% of a water sol. solvent compatible with the above mixed solvent optionally after being contacted to an inert atmosphere, and the other side is immediately contacted to an aq. soln. or an inert medium of above 0°C contg. below 50% of the above sol. solvent optionally after being contacted to an inert atmosphere.
