abstract PURPOSE: To prepare a polyester having excellent whiteness and heat stability, by the polycondensation of an aromatic dicarboxylic acid and a glycol, adding a cobalt compound and a phosphorus compound at a stage different from the stage of the addition of a titanium compound. n CONSTITUTION: In the polycondensation of an aromatic dicarboxylic acid or its lower alkyl ester with a glycol, a cobalt compound and a phosphorus compound which are soluble to the reaction mixture, are added to the reaction system before or during the polycondensation, and, at a different stage from the addition of the above compound, a titanium compound is also added to the reaction system. Preferably, the cobalt compound and the phosphorus compound are added before the polycondensation to form a coordination compound, and the titanium compound is added in the course of the polycondensation. The atomic ratio of the cobalt to the phosphorus is 1 to 0.3Wl, pref. 1 to 0.5W1.5. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1979,JPO&Japio
