titleOfInvention | Preparation of large ring ethylenedioate |
abstract | PURPOSE: To obtain the title compound useful as musk perfumes, in a simple process in high yield, by polymerizing a dibasic fatty acid with ethylene glycol in the presence of an aluminum compound having a carbonate radical, and by depolymeirzing and ring closure of the polymer in vacuo. n CONSTITUTION: A basic aqueous solution of an aluminum compound, e.g. Al(OH) 3 , is brought into contact with CO 2 gas or a substance which produces CO 2 gas, to give an aluminum compound having a carbonate radical. A dibasic fatty acid of formula I: (n is an integer 6W14) or its ester is polymerized with ethylene glycol or ethylene oxide in the presence of the aluminum compound thus obtained at 50W250°C, preferably 100W200°C, and subjected to depolymerization and ring closure at 180W300°C, preferably 240W280°C, at a pressure of 10 -2 W 10 mm Hg, preferably 10 -1 Wl mm Hg, to give a large ring ethylenedioate of formula II. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1979,JPO&Japio |
