titleOfInvention Preparation of unsaturated ester
abstract PURPOSE: To obtain an unsaturated terpenic acid ester, useful as a perfume, a cosmetic base, a pharmaceutical, a pesticide, etc., economically, by the reaction of a primary allyl alcohol with a derivative of an orthoacetate followed by thermal rearrangement. n CONSTITUTION: A compound of formula I(R 1 =H, hydrocarbon) is made to react with a compound of formula II (R 2 =H, lower alkyl etc.; R 3 -R 5 =lower alkyl) at 100W150°C in the presence of an acidic catalyst, followed by the Claisen rearrangement to give a compound of formula III (R 6 is either one of R 3 -R 5 ), which is then subjected to the Cope rearrangement by heating at 170W220°C to afford a compound of formula IV. The compound of formula I is obtained by isomerization of an alcohol of formula V, e.g. by heating in the presence of a catalyst. n COPYRIGHT: (C)1979,JPO&Japio
