abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce 3-methyltetrahydrofuran which is substantially free of alcohol and water. SOLUTION: An organic solvent which is insoluble in alcohol and water and forms an azeotrope with alcohol and water is added to a mixed solution containing 3-methyltetrahydrofuran, alcohol and water, and distillation is carried out. 3-Methyltetrahydrofuran, free of alcohol and water, and an azeotropic mixture of alcohol and water with an organic solvent are separated by distillation. |
