titleOfInvention Production method of cytosine
abstract (57) [Problem] To provide an industrial process for producing high-purity cytosine crystals useful as antibacterial agents and antiviral agents. A nitrile compound is reacted with urea in an organic solvent in the presence of an alkali metal alcoholate, Prepare a reaction mixture containing an alkali metal salt of cytosine, Water is added to the reaction mixture to obtain an aqueous layer (aqueous solution) by layer separation, and the aqueous layer is neutralized with an acid to precipitate crude cytosine crystals, and then the crude cytosine crystals are dissolved in alkaline water. To prepare an aqueous solution of the crude alkali metal salt of cytosine, and further, by neutralizing the aqueous solution with an acid in the presence of a water-soluble lower alcohol to precipitate cytosine crystals, a highly pure cytosine crystal with very few impurities. Is industrially easily obtainable.
