titleOfInvention Production of cytosine
abstract (57) [Problem] To provide an industrial method for producing high-purity cytosine crystals useful as antibacterial agents and antiviral agents. SOLUTION: 3-alkoxyacrylonitrile and 3, At least one nitrile compound selected from the group consisting of 3-dialkoxypropionitrile and urea are reacted in a poorly water-soluble organic solvent in the presence of an alkali metal alcoholate to form an alkali metal of cytosine. A reaction mixture containing a salt is obtained, then water is added to the reaction mixture, an aqueous layer (aqueous solution) is separated by layer separation, and a water-soluble lower alcohol is added to the aqueous layer. The present invention relates to a method for industrially easily obtaining a high-purity cytosine crystal by neutralizing the aqueous solution with an acid to generate cytosine and precipitating a cytosine crystal from the neutralized solution.
