abstract (57) [Summary] [PROBLEMS] To improve the recognition accuracy and speed of a character recognition device. SOLUTION: A character extracting unit 101 extracts a character image from a document image. The feature amount extraction unit 102 extracts a feature amount from a character image for each character. The category determination unit 104 obtains the similarity between the character feature amount of each character and the standard feature amount of the category in the category dictionary 103 to obtain the category of each character. The morpheme extraction unit 106 Morphological dictionary 1 with category or category string as search key 05 is retrieved to extract morphemes, a network is generated by connecting the morphemes, and grammatical processing is performed to obtain a combination of morphemes having a high priority. When one morpheme cannot be determined, the detailed recognition unit 107 determines the similarity of the characters constituting the morpheme by comparing it with the standard feature amount of each character in the category dictionary 103 to determine one morpheme.
