abstract | (57) Abstract: In a multilayer coating type magnetic recording medium having lower non-magnetic layers 2 and 4 and upper magnetic layers 3 and 5, lower non-magnetic layers 2 and 4 and upper magnetic layers 3 and 5 are smoothed. It is formed on a smooth surface, prevents charging during traveling, and further improves traveling durability. SOLUTION: Acicular iron oxide and carbon black are used as the nonmagnetic powder contained in the lower nonmagnetic layers 2 and 4, and 70% by weight or more of the total amount of the nonmagnetic powder is constituted by the acicular iron oxide. As the needle-like iron oxide and carbon black, those having an acidic surface are used. |
