abstract (57) [Abstract] (with correction) [Problem] To change the growth habit of a plant. SOLUTION: By transforming a plant or a plant cell with a gene expressing an antisense mRNA complementary to an mRNA transcribed by a coding sequence of a profilin gene, and expressing the gene in the plant or the plant cell Antisense mRNA inhibits the production of profilin in plants or plant cells, resulting in underproduction of profilin. Underproduction of profilin in plants can result in altered growth habits, such as a dwarfing phenotype, reduced root and root hair systems, and delayed flowering times.
