titleOfInvention Methods and compositions for inhibiting biofouling using amides
abstract (57) [Summary]nThe present invention relates to a method for suppressing bacteria from adhering to a submersible surface. The method comprises contacting the submersible surface with an effective amount of at least one amide that inhibits bacterial attachment to the submersible surface. The invention also relates to a method for controlling biofouling of aqueous systems. The method adds an effective amount of at least one amide that inhibits bacterial attachment to submerged surfaces in an aqueous system. The method effectively controls biofouling without substantially killing bacteria. The amide used in the method of the present invention has the following formula (I). The invention also relates to a composition comprising an amide and which can be used in the method. The composition comprises at least one amide in an amount effective to inhibit bacterial adhesion to the submerged surface or the submerged surface.
