titleOfInvention Method and apparatus for controlled low charge blasting of hard rock and concrete by explosive pressurization of the bottom of a drill hole
abstract (57) [Summary] Crush hard materials such as rocks and concrete using a small charge material blast control process. The cartridge (pack 200) containing the explosive charge is inserted into the bottom of the short slot (240) drilled in the rock. The explosive charge material has a structure in which the pressure in the hole bottom accompanied by strong impact strain at the hole bottom is maintained at a desired value in order to promote fine powder crushing as necessary. The cartridge (200) is held in place or packed with a heavy duty rod made of a high strength material such as steel. The cartridge (200) has an auxiliary internal volume designed to regulate the pressure applied to the bottom hole volume by detonation. The main features of this method and apparatus are the relatively low energy of shattered rock and the relatively small amount of explosive required to break the rock.
