titleOfInvention | Gasket containing corrosion inhibitor |
abstract | (57) [Summary] The function of an aircraft depends on many mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems. Access to these systems, for example for maintenance purposes, can often only be done from outside or inside the aircraft with the panels removed. Reliable panel sealants are needed to protect the system from environmental effects such as water intrusion. Prior to use, essentially a) 30-90% by weight of a porous base material, and b) 10-70% by weight of corrosion protection, which must be compatible and polar in nature with said porous material. Sealant materials consisting of agents have been developed. Preferably, the porous base material is expanded polytetrafluoroethylene. Further, a) a first step of producing a porous base sealant material (90), b) a second step of preparing a corrosion inhibitor fluid (70), c) applying the liquid to the base sealant material. A method for manufacturing a corrosion resistant sealant material is disclosed that includes a third step of applying and d) a fourth step of drying the base sealant material to form a corrosion resistant sealant material. The fluid used is preferably a solution, the solute of which is the corrosion inhibitor, which is required to be compatible and polar in nature with the sealant material. One example of a corrosion inhibitor is perfluoropolyether or a functionalized derivative thereof. |
