(57) [Summary]nA method for converting compactin to pravastatin is described. The compactin is provided, and the factor from Actinomadura is contacted with the compactin under conditions where the factor converts compactin to pravastatin. Furthermore, a strain of Actinomadura, a cell-free extract of Actinomadura, a method for reducing hydroxylase of Actinomadura and cholesterol levels in mammals are also described. |
