(57) [Summary]nThe present invention generally relates to genetic constructs useful for controlling malting enzyme synthesis in plants. More particularly, the present invention relates to nucleic acid molecules encoding gibberellin-regulated MYB polypeptides, such as the barley and rice GAMyb gene sequence and its transcriptionally regulated and / or immune interacting moieties. The gene sequence of the present invention is introduced into plant cells, especially monocotyledonous cells derived from barley, wheat, corn, rye, rice or sorghum, and the sequence of the present invention is sense or antisense orientation. Expression regulates the expression of the hydrolytic malting enzyme, which is usually controlled by the GAMYB polypeptide. Thus, the gene sequences of the present invention are useful for producing plants with altered malting characteristics. |
