abstract (57) [Summary] In a direct injection type spark ignition type internal combustion engine, components vaporized from a fuel tank are returned by introducing fuel into all combustion chambers of the internal combustion engine using a regeneration valve. In this case, it is no longer possible to maintain a stratified intake state favorable for fuel economy in the combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine. In the spark-ignition internal combustion engine of the direct injection type according to the present invention, an intake pipe (14), at least two combustion chambers (5), and at least one intake valve (7) and at least one combustion chamber (5) for each combustion chamber (5). One exhaust valve (8), a fuel injection valve (9) for direct injection into the combustion chamber (5), and a supply conduit (16) leading to at least one intake valve (7) of each combustion chamber (5). Air that is sucked from the intake pipe (14) and can be controlled by the throttle mechanism (36) flows through the supply conduit (16), and the air is supplied to the fuel tank (25) of the internal combustion engine. Fuel evaporated from the evaporation suppression system can be supplied downstream of the throttle mechanism (36), and introduction of the evaporated fuel from the fuel evaporation suppression system to the supply conduit (16) is performed by the combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine (1).
