titleOfInvention | Composition containing coated acid particles and powder coating containing the composition |
abstract | (57) [Summary]nThe acid composition comprises solid particles of a polycarboxylic acid coated with a polymer. The acid composition may function as a crosslinking agent in the powder coating. However, this powder coating further contains a resin. The polymers of the resin and acid composition may be the same or different. The average particle size of the solid particles of the coated acid is in the range of 0.5 to 50 micrometers. When used in powder coatings, such coated solid particles reduce or eliminate the sublimation of the acid crosslinking agent from the powder coating during the curing process. In addition, these coated solid particles extend the shelf life of the powder coating used. Such coated particles also improve the flowability of the powder coating during its curing and the gloss and surface properties of the final cured coating. |
