PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To have an extremely high catalytic activity, excellent in hydrogenation selectivity and heat resistance, excellent in storage stability and sustained catalytic activity, and affected by coexisting impurities. A difficult hydrogenation catalyst and a method for hydrogenating an olefinically unsaturated compound using the catalyst are provided. SOLUTION: The hydrogenation catalyst is (A) bis (cyclopentadienyl) titanium bis (α-n-butyl-α-). A bis (cyclopentadienyl or derivative thereof) compound of Ti, Zr or Hf typified by phenylbenzyloxy) and the like; and (B) an organic compound, halide or hydride of a Group I-III group metal of the periodic table. Or (C) a polar organic compound represented by an alcohol, a carboxylic acid or the like. The hydrogenation method is Contacting the olefinically unsaturated compound with hydrogen in an inert organic solvent in the presence of the catalyst. |
