Controlling swelling of alkali metal electrochemical cells |
abstract |
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkaline / transition metal oxide electrochemical battery such as a lithium / silver vanadium oxide battery or a lithium / silver vanadium silver oxide battery without impairing the discharge capacity of the battery to an appreciable extent. The purpose is to improve battery swelling characteristics. The above objects include a) an anode made of an alkali metal as an anode active material, and b) a cathode active material selected from the group consisting of metals, metal oxides, mixed metal oxides and metal sulfides. A cathode, and c) an electrochemical cell comprising the anode and the electrolyte activating the cathode, wherein the anode active material and the cathode active material have a percent change in total battery thickness due to discharge of about 10% or less. Thus, the problem is solved by an electrochemical cell characterized by being present in the cell in an anode-cathode capacity ratio based on the gram amount of the anode and cathode active materials. |
