abstract (57) Abstract: A first object of the present invention is to provide a fuel assembly that can sufficiently flatten the axial power distribution at the initial stage of combustion even when MOX fuel is loaded. A long fuel rod (2) having a relatively long active fuel length. And a short fuel rod 3 having a shorter active fuel length than the long fuel rod 2 Are arranged in a square lattice of 9 rows and 9 columns or more in a fuel assembly for a boiling water reactor, wherein the long fuel rods 2 have a first length filled with MOX fuel which is a mixed oxide of uranium and plutonium. The short fuel rod 3 has a first short fuel rod 17 filled with uranium fuel to which a burnable poison is added.
