(57) [Problem] To provide a high-density magnetic recording medium which exhibits a high-range output comparable to a vapor-deposited tape while being of a coating type, and has running durability and storability. A two or more layers in which a lower nonmagnetic layer in which at least nonmagnetic powder is dispersed in a binder is provided on one surface of a support, and an upper magnetic layer in which ferromagnetic powder is dispersed in a binder is provided thereon. In a magnetic recording medium comprising a back layer in which carbon black is dispersed in a binder on the other surface of the support, the upper magnetic layer has an average dry thickness (d) of 1.0. μm or less, and the number of abrasives on the surface of the upper magnetic layer obtained by photographing the magnetic recording medium with a SEM (electron microscope) at 5 × magnification is 0.1 / μm 2 or more. The nonmagnetic powder contained in the lower nonmagnetic layer is a nonmagnetic inorganic powder having a Mohs hardness of 3 or more, and the carbon black contained in the back layer has an average particle diameter smaller than the average major axis length of the ferromagnetic powder. A magnetic recording medium comprising carbon black and carbon black having an average particle diameter larger than the average major axis length of the ferromagnetic powder. |
