abstract PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for separating a metal present in an aqueous solution, particularly a method for removing a metal from an aqueous solution having a high nitric acid concentration of radioactive waste. SOLUTION: (1) An effective amount of a complex-forming anionic surfactant is added to an aqueous solution to form micelles in the solution. (2) A method for separating metals in an aqueous solution, which comprises a step of filtering the aqueous solution using an ultrafiltration membrane capable of holding the micelles formed earlier, is effective. In step (1), a nonionic surfactant can be added to the aqueous solution to solubilize the anionic surfactant to form a stable system.
