titleOfInvention Apparatus and method for fixing toner image to give gloss
abstract [PROBLEMS] To broaden a range of operating conditions where there is no risk of occurrence of offset, and at the same time, it is possible to fix an unfixed toner image to a substrate and to provide a desired gloss level in a single device. Devices and methods are provided. A substrate (40) bearing an unfixed toner image (42) is fed through a contact zone (Z1) that extends continuously from an inlet (16) to an outlet (18). This area is defined by the endless surface (12) and the reaction surface (14) being in pressure contact with each other. The endless surface (12) adjacent to the inlet (16) is heated to a temperature sufficient to reduce the viscosity of the toner to less than 50 Pa ยท s. The endless surface (12) has an inlet (16) and an outlet (1 In the middle part of 8), the toner is forcibly cooled to a temperature lower than the glass transition point Tg of the toner.
