PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal dye transfer method using a deprotonated cationic dye, which has a high protonation rate. (A) A dye-donor element having, on a support, a dye layer in which a dye is dispersed in a polymer binder, wherein the dye forms a part of a conjugated system when reprotonated. Imagewise heating a dye-donor element, which is a deprotonated cationic dye capable of becoming a cationic dye having an NH group, (b) reprotonating the deprotonated cationic dye Imagewise transferring said dye to a dye image receiving layer of a dye receptor element containing an acid moiety which can be converted to a dye, and (c) immediately before, during or during imagewise transfer of said dye. A method for forming a dye transfer image, comprising the step of exposing said dye receptor element to heat from a heat source after transfer. |
