titleOfInvention | Semiconductor chemical sensor |
abstract | (57) [Problem] To provide a chemical detector which is small and lightweight and has extremely high chemical specificity. A chemical detector for detecting a chemical species in a gas includes a detection element including a porous organic semiconductor made of a substance that adsorbs a chemical species in the gas. The chemical detector further includes a power supply 34 for generating a bias voltage and a depletion region 22 in the detection element. The chemical species penetrates into the depletion region through the organic semiconductor under a bias voltage, causing a change in the capacitance of the detection element. A light source illuminates the gas before entering the detection element. Light changes the chemical properties of the species and enhances the adsorption selectivity of the organic semiconductor. The chemical detector is based on the change in the capacitance of the detection element. The presence and concentration of the chemical species in the gas can be determined. The chemical detector can be provided in a portable unit suitable for on-site inspection applications. |
