PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oxidation catalyst system capable of efficiently oxidizing alcohol with molecular oxygen with a small amount of a catalyst. SOLUTION: The oxidation catalyst system is composed of (A) a ruthenium compound and (B) a dioxybenzene or an oxidized product thereof. The ruthenium compound (A) includes a ruthenium complex such as dichlorotris (triphenylphosphine) ruthenium (II), Ru / C and the like. The dioxybenzenes or oxidized form thereof (B) include hydroquinone and the like. If the alcohol is oxidized with molecular oxygen in the presence of the above-mentioned oxidation catalyst system, the corresponding carbonyl compound is obtained in high yield. Primary alcohols are selectively oxidized compared to secondary alcohols. |
