abstract (57) [Problem] To provide a magnetic recording medium which is electrochemically stable and does not cause local corrosion. SOLUTION: The hydrogen ion concentration index (pH) is 7.5 to 7.5. An immersion potential generated when immersed in an electrolyte solution containing 8.5 weakly alkaline halogen ions is higher than -0.6 V (electrochemically measured) with reference to a silver-silver chloride electrode. The magnetic film 3 is made of a magnetic material having a noble potential and having no spike noise due to local corrosion in the immersion potential.
