titleOfInvention Light source device and projection display device
abstract (57) [Problem] To provide a light source device including a discharge lamp and a reflecting mirror used as a light source of a projection display device or the like, which can form illumination light with good color balance. SOLUTION: The discharge lamp 10 includes a light emitting portion 17 in which a metal halide is sealed, and an electrode seal portion 19 having a substantially rectangular cross section. In the discharge lamp 10, the long side of the rectangular cross section of the electrode seal portion 19 has a tube axis 10 a of the arc tube as one side, and is substantially horizontal to a surface that intersects the surface 27 a that is substantially perpendicular to the ventilation port 27 of the reflecting mirror 21. So that It is attached to the reflecting mirror 21. Therefore, the cooling air guided from the ventilation holes 27 flows around the light emitting unit 17 almost uniformly. Therefore, the light emitting unit 17 can be cooled substantially uniformly, the temperature distribution in the light emitting unit 17 can be made uniform, and the light emitting unit 17 can be prevented from being broken by thermal stress.
