abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for industrially and efficiently producing a dimethylolalkane isomer mixture and a trimethylolalkane isomer mixture from an industrially available aldehyde isomer mixture. . SOLUTION: A mixture of aldehyde isomers obtained by an oxo reaction of a mixture of olefin isomers having 6 to 8 carbon atoms is reacted with formaldehyde or a derivative thereof in the presence of a basic compound to form a dimethylol alkane isomer with a trimethylol alkane isomer. A process for producing a dimethylolalkane isomer mixture and a trimethylolalkane isomer mixture, which comprises obtaining a methylolalkane isomer mixture. |
