abstract (57) [Problem] To provide a novel liquid crystal compound having an achiral antiferroelectric phase. A swallow tail liquid crystal compound represented by the following general formula (1). Embedded image (Wherein, A represents -O-, -COO- or a single bond (-); Is an integer of 6 to 12, and n is an integer of 2 to 4. [Effect] A new achiral antiferroelectric liquid crystal can be provided. The novel achiral antiferroelectric liquid crystal can be made an optically active antiferroelectric liquid crystal by mixing an optically active compound as a chiral dopant.
