abstract [PROBLEMS] To provide a liquid crystal composition having excellent switching characteristics, a high memory angle, and a good contrast ratio. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal composition comprises (1) an achiral host mixture and (2) at least one of 10% by weight or less of the total weight. A mixture of two or more fluorinated phenylpyrimidine compounds, wherein the achiral host mixture comprises (a) at least 20% by weight, based on the total weight of the achiral host mixture, which can exhibit a smectic C phase. And (b) at least 10% by weight, based on the total weight of the achiral host mixture, of at least one fluorinated terphenyl compound that enhances the phase sequence of the mixture, wherein the sum of (a) and (b) The amount is at least 50% by weight, based on the total weight of the achiral host mixture.
