abstract | (57) [Summary] (With correction) [PROBLEMS] To process an image of an object taken from a different unknown position and to specify a point in the image corresponding to the same point on the actual object. A plurality of different techniques are used to identify matching points, a plurality of solutions are calculated and tested for relative positions. Then, a solution that matches for the most matching points is selected. In one matching technique, edges in the image are identified by first identifying corner points in the image and identifying edges between corner points based on edge direction values of pixels. Edges are processed in order of strength to remove crossovers. The image is divided into regions by connecting the points at the edges of the edge based on the edge strength. And Matching points in corresponding regions in two or more images are identified. |
