Psychiatric conditions with abnormal perception (eg, depression, chronic anxiety syndrome, paranoia, alcoholism and drug addiction), chronic pain, and opioid and substance P-sensitive neurons play some role Provided are methods for treating other diseases that fulfill the above, and compositions for performing the methods. SOLUTION: This method comprises supplying a peptide which binds to an opioid receptor or prevents the binding of substance P to a substance P receptor in vivo, wherein (a) the myogenic cell expresses the peptide. Introducing the DNA encoding the peptide into the myogenic cell, and then (b) Administering the myogenic cell to a patient so that the peptide is produced in vivo; and a myogenic cell containing the heterologous DNA encoding the peptide and a pharmaceutically acceptable agent. A composition comprising a carrier. |
