abstract (57) [Problem] To provide a magnetic recording medium in which the interface between magnetic layers is stabilized and the output is improved. SOLUTION: A lower magnetic layer 3 contains a ferromagnetic powder and a non-magnetic powder, and the ferromagnetic powder is a plate-like hexagonal ferromagnetic powder, and has a magnetization perpendicular to the plate surface. The nonmagnetic powder has an easy axis, the nonmagnetic powder is acicular, the major axis length is 0.02 μm or more and less than 0.2 μm, and the SFD (Switching Field Distrib ution) is 0.45 or less and the squareness ratio is 0.6 to 0.9. 2.
