abstract | (57) [Problem] To realize high-speed driving in a polar drive liquid crystal and to increase the screen size without deteriorating image quality due to lowering of frame frequency. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal having bistability and a plurality of pixels in which a crossed scanning electrode group and an intersecting electrode group are arranged in a matrix are provided. In a liquid crystal device that selectively applies a scanning signal and an information signal to drive each of the pixels, each of the pixels has one stable state by applying one polarity voltage exceeding a threshold voltage to a selected pixel. Having the following characteristics, the means for driving each pixel has means for simultaneously selecting a plurality of the scan electrodes, and a write pulse applied to the selection period of the scan signal for determining a state of the pixel. The scan signal and the scan signal may be configured such that an integrated value of the write pulse having a polarity for writing the pixel is larger than an integrated value of the write pulse having a polarity for writing the pixel.
