titleOfInvention Vector trellis coded modulation using vector convolutional codes for reliable data transmission
abstract (57) Abstract: An object of the present invention is to provide a data encoding method for encoding a signal in order to improve the reliability of transmission in a noisy channel. SOLUTION: The input signal is sampled to generate a sequence of input samples u [n] (39), and the input samples are blocked into a sequence of input vectors u of length L (72), and K input vectors are obtained. Modulate (81) the sequence of input vectors so that they map to N output vectors v of length M in the output sequence, which are then modulated into symbols of a symbol constellation, A waveform is generated in response (82). The sequence of input vectors is a vector convolution encoding of the sequence of input vectors to map the K input vectors to the N output vectors v. The (74,76,78) output vector v is modulated into a symbol by vector trellis coding and modulation.
