PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel protein having a cysteine protease inhibitory activity and a method for producing the same. A novel protein having a cysteine protease inhibitory activity of 13 ± 2 kDa or 16 ± 2 kDa as measured by SDS-PAGE under reducing and non-reducing conditions. A method for producing the protein, wherein human milk is subjected to affinity chromatography using a carboxymethylated papain-immobilized carrier, the adsorbed fraction is eluted under alkaline conditions, and purified by gel filtration and reverse phase chromatography. The protein of the present invention exhibits an antibody production promoting effect and an inhibitory effect on bone resorption of osteoclasts, and is useful as an antiviral agent, a therapeutic agent for osteoporosis and the like. |
