abstract (57) Abstract: A fatty acid lower alcohol ester mixture containing eicosapentaenoic acid lower alcohol ester is vacuum-distilled to collect a fraction containing eicosapentaenoic acid lower alcohol ester, and the fraction is treated with urea. And then concentrate the eicosapentaenoic acid lower alcohol ester with a microorganism-derived lipase and a surfactant for hydrolysis treatment, and then subject the treated product to column chromatography using a styrenedivinylbenzene polymer. A method for producing a lower alcohol ester of eicosapentaenoic acid, characterized by purifying by a method described below. [Effect] A high-purity lower alcohol ester of eicosapentaenoic acid can be produced, and it can be produced efficiently and selectively, so that the productivity is improved.
