abstract | (57) SUMMARY A unique absorbent article is disclosed that includes a pair of extendable leg storage gaskets (38). The leg storage gasket extends along the width of the leg storage gasket and includes a body-facing surface (82) to be in contact with the wearer's body during use. An outboard edge (68) of each of the leg storage gaskets is attached to a longitudinal side of the absorbent article over an attachment width (86). The central edge (66) of each of the leg storage gaskets remains unattached away from the longitudinal side at least at the crotch portion of the absorbent article along the unattached width (84). The mounting width of each of the leg storage gaskets at the crotch portion of the absorbent article is at least about 30% of the width of the leg storage gasket. The absorbent article may also include a pair of elastic waist storage gaskets (40, 42). Further, the absorbent article includes at least one waist flap (100, 102) to create another void volume to assist in containing human waste. |
