titleOfInvention Improvement of pneumatic probe and its improvement on pneumatic probe
abstract A pneumatic probe for use in measuring pulsating ocular blood flow comprises a housing (1) comprising an airtight bearing (4) defining a pressure chamber (10) and a communication with the pressure chamber. A piston (5) having a corresponding axial bore (8), the proximal end (6) of the piston carrying a counterweight (16) and housed in a pressure chamber. The distal end (7) of the piston extends outside the housing and carries a disposable sensing head (11). The transparent membrane (13) is integrally attached to the sensing head and is substantially perpendicular to the axial bore of the piston and the inner channel (12), through which light is transmitted. The light is emitted from the LED (9) mounted in the housing to the membrane. The probe allows the visual axis of the patient to be aligned with the axial bore of the piston by focusing on the light source during the measurement, thus allowing the flattened cornea and sensing membrane to be aligned with the axial bore of the piston. It is allowed to remain substantially parallel to the piston and substantially perpendicular to the axial bore of the piston.
