Two-stage xylene isomerization |
abstract |
(57) [Summary]nIsomerizing a mixture of an aromatic hydrocarbon compound comprising ethylbenzene and at least one xylene using a two-component catalyst system to convert ethylbenzene to a compound that can be removed from the aromatic hydrocarbon compound stream; The product stream produces a para-xylene concentration approximately equal to the equilibrium value of the para isomer. The first catalyst comprises a mesopore size zeolite effective for ethylbenzene conversion. Preferably, the first catalyst is silica-bound. The second catalyst comprises a medium pore size zeolite having a small crystal size and effective to catalyze xylene isomerization. Any of the catalysts of the present invention can include one or more hydrogenation / dehydrogenation components. |
