(57) Abstract: An 18-norvitamin D analog in which the internuclear methyl group bonded to carbon 13 of the CD ring has been removed and substituted with a hydrogen atom. The 18-nor vitamin D compound is characterized by relatively large cell differentiation activity, the ability to move calcium from bone l [alpha], much less active than 25-dihydroxyvitamin D 3. Because of their preferential calcemic activity, these compounds are likely to be effective in treating diseases requiring bone formation, such as osteoporosis, and in treating psoriasis due to cell differentiation activity. |
