titleOfInvention Micro balloon catheter
abstract (57) Abstract The present invention is a catheter (100) having a microballoon (108) at the tip. The catheter has a shaft (104) whose flexibility changes as it approaches the distal tip, where it becomes the most flexible. The balloon is formed from an elastic material. The catheter shaft has a main lumen (114) that extends from the proximal end to the distal end so that the guidewire (101) can be used when placing the distal tip of the catheter in a remote area. The catheter shaft having the wall preferably has a wall with a multilayer structure. The wall preferably includes separate lumens (110) for inflation and deflation of the microballoon, which may be formed from small diameter tubes provided between the layers of the wall. The inflation lumen begins at the proximal end of the catheter and ends at a location near the distal end of the catheter but inside the microballoon.
