titleOfInvention Reinforced airbag cloth reinforcement
abstract (57) [Summary] A method of reinforcing an airbag cloth edge to prevent the cloth (21) from being loosened or worn during the cutting process. The method is carried out by coating the yarn intersections with a flexible, thin film of radiation-polymerizable resin (16) and then curing the coating system at a high production rate. The airbag fabric (21, 22) is cut in the cured (25, 27, 28, 30 and 32) areas where the coating (16) has been applied, thereby providing sufficient cure to prevent the airbag fabric edges from fraying. Provides a band or border of resin width. This method is particularly suitable for the fabrication of airbags (1) used for the protection of vehicle occupants such as motor vehicles. An airbag constructed from a breathable, rim-coated fabric is also described.
