(57) Summary The balloon catheter assembly (2) includes a catheter (8) having a catheter shaft (10) with a balloon (12) at the distal end. The sleeve assembly (16) has a diametrically expandable balloon expansion sleeve (18) provided at its distal end and sized to position over the balloon when the balloon is deflated. The expansion sleeve (18) can be expanded from the relaxed state, and in the relaxed state, is placed over the deflated balloon and expands around the fully inflated balloon. The expansion sleeve (18) can be made from an elastic or substantially inelastic material. That is, the expansion sleeve (18) may include a porous matrix material provided with the drug in a diffused state to administer the drug locally when the tube is reinflated. |
