| abstract | The product is constructed with a front section (12), a rear waistband section (14) and an intermediate section (16) interconnecting the front and rear waistband sections. The product includes a backsheet layer (30) having a laterally extending width and a longitudinally extending length. A liquid permeable top sheet layer (28) is overlaid on the back sheet layer, the top sheet layer having a laterally extending width and a longitudinally extending length. An absorber (32) is placed between the back sheet layer and the top sheet layer. A resilient side panel (56) is connected to the product in laterally opposite end regions (72, 74) of at least one of the front and rear waistband sections. The side panels are made to be elastically stretchable along at least a lateral transverse direction of the product. A bridging member (40) extending laterally extends from the backsheet and topsheet layers to interconnect the resilient side panels and to be laterally spaced a desired distance apart. At least a portion of the bridge member is positioned to overlap the longitudinal end section (60) of the absorber and is connected to at least one of the backsheet and topsheet layers. A fastening means (36) for fixing the product to the wearer is provided. The fastening means couples with the lateral end regions (76, 78) of the side panels. |
